Transportation & Parking

You should plan to arrive in Washington, DC during U.S. business hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, when most University offices and area business are open. DC is served by three major airports: Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI). Unfortunately, Georgetown University is unable to provide airport pickup.

Also known as “Reagan National”, this is the closest airport to Georgetown, and it is common to fly over Georgetown University as you come in for your landing at the airport. Reagan National is located on the blue and yellow Metrorail lines at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport stop.
Getting to Georgetown University (cheapest option):
Take the blue Metrorail line in the direction of Downtown Largo. Get off the train at Rosslyn Metro Station. Take the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) or a taxi from the Rosslyn Metro Station to campus, which is one mile from the Rosslyn Metro Station.

Located in Sterling, Virginia, Dulles Airport is the second closest airport to Georgetown University. Dulles Airport is located on the silver Metrorail line at the Washington Dulles International Airport stop.
Getting to Georgetown University (cheapest option):
Take the silver Metrorail line in the direction of Downtown Largo. Get off the train at the Rosslyn Metro Station. Take the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) or a taxi from the Rosslyn Metro Station to campus, which is one mile from the Rosslyn Metro Station.

Located in Maryland, this airport is often the least expensive to fly into of the three DC area airports. This is the farthest of the three from Georgetown University. This airport is not located at a Metrorail stop.
Getting to Georgetown University (cheapest option):
Take the bus shuttle service from BWI Airport to BWI Rail Station. Take the MARC train from BWI Rail Station to Washington Union Station. From Union Station Metro Station, take the red Metrorail line in the direction of Shady Grove. Get off the train at Dupont Circle Metro Station. Take the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS), the G2 Metrobus with direction to Georgetown University, or a taxi from the Dupont Circle Metro Station to campus, which is 1.5 miles from the Dupont Circle Metro Station.

Amtrak is the nation’s intercity passenger rail system and operates throughout the United States and Canada. Amtrak trains operate out of Washington, DC’s Union Station. You can find train schedules, train routes, and train fares on the Amtrak website.

Taxis are a more expensive form of transportation that provides convenience. Taxis serve the entire metropolitan area, including Reagan National Airport, Dulles Airport, and Baltimore Airport. You should tip taxi drivers 10-20% of the total fare. You can use Taxi Fare Finder to estimate the cost of taking a taxi in the region.
