The International New Student Orientation (I-NSO) program provides an introduction to Georgetown for all new undergraduate, OGE exchange, SFS-Q and transfer students entering Georgetown in F-1 or J-1 visa status each fall. I-NSO is a multi-day orientation hosted by the Office of Global Services and serves as a special orientation track within NSO hosted by the Office of Global Services (OGS). In addition to providing a thorough introduction to the U.S. academic system, U.S. immigration regulations, U.S. health insurance, and the culture of the United States, I-NSO's social activities will help students establish connections with peers and campus resources to ease the transition into student life at Georgetown.
All I-NSO sessions on Friday, August 25th are MANDATORY for students in F-1 or J-1 status to attend, and missing the required sessions could jeopardize one's immigration status.
Freshmen and transfers attend I-NSO on the afternoon of Friday, August 25th directly after move-in, then go on to attend the general university-wide New Student Orientation (NSO) program with their international and domestic classmates for an introduction to life as a student at Georgetown.
I-NSO is required for all international undergraduate exchange, SFS-Q, and transfer students who will enter the United States in F-1 or J-1 status for the Fall 2017 semester. Students in F-1 and J-1 status are automatically registered for I-NSO and charged a $36 international student orientation fee. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to arrive on campus no later than the morning of Friday, August 25th for the designated move-in time. It is recommended that students plan to arrive the day before move-in or earlier to ensure a smooth transition to campus. Fall 2017 Move-In - 10:00am - 12:00pm on Friday, August 25th
All F-1 and J-1 Visa Holders, including OGE Exchange Students, SFS-Q Students, Transfer Students and Dual Citizens or U.S. Citizens who completed the I-NSO Registration must move into their housing assignment between 10:00am and 12:00pm on Friday, August 25th in order to attend the I-NSO mandatory sessions at 2pm.
Move-in is managed and coordinated by the Office of Residential Living and students will receive detailed instructions about move-in procedures from the Residential Living in August. We understand that parents are concerned for the safety and well-being of their children during their undergraduate experience in the United States. The OGS staff takes pride in the care given to all international students and provides a variety of non-academic support services throughout the academic program to ensure adjustment to life in the United States and the University.
Parents and family members who will travel to the Washington area for orientation should plan for family outings a few days prior to the start of orientation as students will have little free time once orientation begins. Parents are also encouraged to attend the Parent & Family Orientation Welcome Session coordinated by NSO on Saturday, August 26th. A special session hosted by OGS for international parents will be offered on Friday, August 25th.
