Fall International Student Orientations
OGS hosts an orientation program of information sessions and social events for F-1 and J-1 international students who are starting a new degree, certificate, or exchange program at the Georgetown Main Campus in Summer or Fall 2020. Interactive sessions focus on academic life, immigration regulations, healthcare, employment, and other topics critical to success at Georgetown.
All students in F-1 and J-1 status are automatically registered for orientation. OGS understands many students may choose to complete the fall semester online from outside the United States and that some students who do plan to study in the United States may be delayed in arriving. To ensure equal access to the International Student Orientations, OGS will offer an online orientation this fall and will not hold in-person activities.
OGS will hold an online International Student Orientation August 16 – August 18, 2020 for all F-1 and J-1 international students attending Master’s, Doctorate, and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate programs. Please check back for a detailed schedule of events.
Sunday, August 16: Optional Meet & Greet 5-6:30pm
Monday, August 17: Mandatory Sessions 9am-1pm, Optional Sessions 1-4pm
Tuesday, August 18: Optional Events
Orientation activities begin on August 20, 2020 for students attending Bachelor’s degree programs, GU-Q students taking courses on the Main Campus, and undergraduate exchange students. OGS partners with New Student Orientation (NSO) to offer a combined orientation experience for international undergraduate students. Please check back for a detailed schedule of events.
Monday, August 17 – Monday, August 24: Move-in (Residential Living FAQ)
Friday, August 21: Online orientation
U.S. citizens, dual citizens and permanent residents who have lived outside the U.S. for the majority of their life and feel International Orientation would ease their adjustment to U.S. culture are welcome to register with this form. (Undergraduate only)
*If you are requesting an F-1/J-1 immigration document from Georgetown, you do not need to register on this form.
Students will continue to join New Student Orientation (NSO) starting on the evening of Friday, August 21 to Tuesday, August 25.
Being organized and prepared before you leave home will make your transition much easier! Below is a checklist of tasks to complete before your arrival at Georgetown. Your academic department or program may require additional tasks, so be sure to read all information you receive from Georgetown University.
Are you a new international student enrolling a program at the School of Continuing Studies (SCS)? If so, SCS orientation information may be found on the SCS Admitted International Students website.
